The Wedding

What can I say about this most wonderful of weekends that might help others who are planning a wedding to have the best experience possible?

Here are some of the things we did.

We did it in a natural setting where people could camp for the weekend.
We had a whole weekend of tubing and talent show and cookouts.
We did it with SO much help from family and friends.
My mother made a big iron pot of curry to feed the guests.
My sister in law did the freshest, most beautiful seasonal flower arrangements.
I wore my favorite color, sewn by my mother-in-law, and the bridesmaids wore white dresses according to their own taste.
People really pitched in, to set up, grill, get everyone where they needed to get, and clean up.
We wrote the ceremony ourselves, stealing from all over and modifying hymn lyrics. Contact me for a copy of what several guests called “the most beautiful ceremony I’ve ever attended.”
We had a spiral theme, and spiral seating.
We used a sage cleanse at the entrance to the ceremony.
Shawn surprised me and wore a tux. He looked so good.

I guess what made it good was the fact that the people who are nearest and dearest to us are SO GOOD. I feel like the wealthiest couple alive, relationally. And that sociometric wealth is what I think I’ve always wanted most and been afraid to not be worthy of, and consequently what I felt most humbled and grateful for from the event.
