Learning to share a bowl

In helping clients write profiles over the past couple weeks, almost everyone got the same two pieces of advice from me.

1. Make it short – people read because they like your picture and are trying to see if your basic deets are a match and you don’t sound crazy or dim.

2. Write about the experience you want, not the qualities of the person you want. The former can inspire someone with the same vision and attract them irresistably. The latter makes people feel like you want them to live up to your checklist – yuck.

And in fact, it’s an important distinction in your own thinking – the experience of sharing a bowl is what you are trying to attract, and what you are creating for your future. The focus is on getting very clear and excited about that future, NOT on winning the love of that elusive right person.
